Ex-international, Mutiu Adepoju, has warned the Super Eagles’ Coach, Stephen Keshi, stay clear of Everton’s star, Victor Anichebe.
The Headmaster, as Adepoju is fondly called, told The Eagles Online that it is wrong to compel the big forward to play for the Super Eagles when he has requested he should be left alone until he feels otherwise.
He said: “I believe he (Anichebe) is a professional player and he decision should be respected.
“I also feel he knows what is good for him.
“So, no one has the power to force him to play for the national team.
“I’m sure Keshi understands the player’s plight, so he should let him be, at least for now.”
Adepoju played for the Super Eagles in the USA ’94 World Cup.
Few weeks ago, Anichebe, the Everton forward, called for time on his international career after admitting he needs to focus on the club that has supported him through his injury nightmares.
However, the 25-year-old has hinted he may return to the Nigerian national team sometime in the future.
Anichebe has scored six goals in 16 Premier League appearances this campaign, helping the club to move within touching distance of a spot in Europe for next season.
