The National Board for Technical Education, Kaduna on Thursday visited the College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies, Ilorin for accreditation exercise of National Diploma courses.
Helen Oduntan, the Leader of the team of accreditation committee from NBTE, said they were in the college basically for advisory and resource inspection.
Oduntan said: “We are here for four programmes: ND Accounting, ND Computer Science, ND Library Science and ND Mass Communication Science
“There are various groups from NBTE that will carry out the assessment of the institution.”
The team leader appreciated the management’s attitude to education and for their effort to join the NBTE.
She said: “There are lots of advantages for any institution that join NBTE.
“Among them is the professional knowledge that the students will benefit before graduating.
“They will also have an opportunity of owning a qualified and standard certificate.”
The Provost of the College, Dr. Olokoba Abdullahi, said that ND courses will improve the status of the institution and the certificate will be nationally and internationally acknowledged.
“The only way to achieve our aim is to team up with a recognised body like NBTE, Kaduna,” he said.
Olokoba however appealed to the team to consider their request in a positive and accelerated manner.
Hajiya Sa’adatu Kawu, the state Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, said the college was established to produce middle level manpower since inception in 1992.
The Commissioner, who was represented by David Oguntunde, the Director of Continuous Education, said the state was happy that the Executive Secretary of the Board will make things happen.
Kawu said: “This development is in line with the aspiration of the state Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazak, who has magnanimously approved for the release of substantial amount of money for this accreditation exercise.”
Kawu pledged to cooperate with NBTE and make things easy and achievable.
