The Governor of Niger State, Dr. Muazu Babangida Aliyu, on Thursday applauded the accord between the presidential candidates of all the parties taking part in the February 2015 presidential election.
Aliyu said it will ease the tension already mounting in the country.
He told journalists at the 123 Military cenotaphs after laying wreaths as part of activities marking this year’s Armed Forces Remembrance Day that the violence-free accord will stabilise Nigeria’s democracy.
He said: “I am happy that President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, former Head of state General Muhammadu Buhari and indeed other candidates signed the violence free pact.
“The violence-free accord signed will not only stop vicious campaign comments which could becloud the conduct of a free and fair election, but will definitely ease the tension in our democracy.
“We must now reduce the expectations of each party because supporters of each political parties believe that their candidates will win one election or another.”
It should be recalled that all the presidential candidates had on Wednesday signed a violence-free accord by pledging to stop vicious campaign comments, which could becloud the conduct of a free and fair election in February.
Governor Aliyu also said all will be well before, during and after the presidential and other elections.
The governor and other dignitaries, among them the Emir of Minna, Dr. Umar Farouq Bahago; the Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Olusola Amore; as well as Commanders of the various forces in the state, laid wreaths at the tomb of the unknown soldier.
