Following the resolution of the National Executive Committee of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association at its meeting on Wednesday in Abuja, the members of the association stayed away from venue of the this year’s May Day rally at the Eagle Square, Abuja.
The decision was PENGASSAN’s way of protesting the abduction of 234 girls of the Government Girls Secondary School in Chibok, Borno State.
The union also said it was a mark of identification with the plights and pains of parents of girls abducted by members of dreaded sect, Boko Haram.
A statement by the union on Thursday added: “PENGASSAN therefore calls on the Federal Government to should without delay embark on appreciable steps in search and rescue of our sisters and daughters that are still being held in hostage by abductors since April 3, 2014 to date.
“The non participation is also to protest the maladministration by the TUC leadership under Comrade Bobboi Bala Kaigama as President General and Comrade Musa Lawa as Secretary General.
“While the nation is brooding in pensive mood over the pains caused by terrorist attacks and persistent threats to security of life and properties, PENGASSAN cannot but wish all of us Happy Workers Day, in the fervent hope and yearning for light and succour at the end of the tunnel.”
