A 21-year-old artisan, Segun Akinjomo, on Thursday, appeared before an Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State for allegedly stealing cable worth N300,000.
The defendant, whose address was not given, is facing two counts bordering on felony and stealing.
The Prosecutor, ASP Zedekiah Orogbemi, told the court that the defendant and others still at large, committed the offences on October 18, 2023, around 1am at Igbodigo in Okitipupa, Okitipupa magisterial district.

Orogbemi said that the defendant and others at large stole the cable belonging to Benin Electricity Distribution Company.
According to him, the offences are punishable under Sections 516 and 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.
The Chief Magistrate, Cletus Ojuola, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000, with a surety in like sum.
Ojuola said that the surety must be resident within the court’s jurisdiction and present evidence of two years tax payment made to the state government.
He adjourned the case till February 27 for further hearing.
