Samuel Eto’o, who has just been included on Chelsea’s list of players that will be released in the coming weeks, is hoping to stay in London, which has sparked speculation that North London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur could both be prepared to offer the striker a contract.
The 33-year-old was signed by the Blues last summer on a one-year deal, but despite scoirng 9 Premier League goals this campaign, the Cameroon international has not been offered a contract extension, with Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho coming to blows with the man whom he managed previously at Inter Milan.
With news of Eto’o being available on a free transfer, both Spurs and Arsenal are now keeping tabs on the situation, according to the Sun. Although Mourinho seems to disagree, Eto’o clearly still has something to offer and having scored against both North London sides at Stamford Bridge this season, as well as a hat trick at home to Manchester United, it may be foolish to pass on the offer to sign the former Barcelona frontman.
Both Spurs and Arsenal will be in the market for a new striker this season and may have to battle it out over Eto’o. However, the striker’s mammoth wage demands may prove to be a problem.
