LMC lacks powers to exclude clubs from league – Club Owners scribe

The League Management Company lacks the powers to exclude Nembe City and Giwa FC from participating in the ongoing premier league, an official of the club owners has said.
Alloy Chukwuemeka, Acting Secretary, Association of Nigeria Premier League Chairmen and Managers, made the assertion in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
NAN reports that the LMC on March 6 excluded the two clubs from participating in the ongoing Globacom Premier League.
LMC said that the disqualification was on the grounds that the clubs failed to comply with registration requirements.
Chukwuemeka said the LMC took the decision in a hurry.
He said the exclusive powers to relegate, promote, dismiss, exclude and suspend any team from any cadre of the leagues resided with the Nigeria Football Association.
He added that what the LMC should have done was to recommend their findings to the NFA for action.
According to him, the hasty decision amounts to usurping the powers of the NFA.
He said: “Yes, we are here for a meeting (club owners’ meeting) as you rightly observed but I cannot pre-empt the outcome of the meeting.
“So, you can wait until we come out of the meeting.
“The essence of the meeting is first in solidarity with our colleagues whose clubs were excluded from participating in the league.
“So, we are here also to find out the true position of the issues on ground so that we can present it to our larger forum and other relevant quarters.
“Personally, I think the LMC lacks such powers to exclude any team from participating in the league.
“It is the exclusive powers of the NFA.
“LMC can only recommend that is all I can say for now.”
