The Deputy Apex leader of Ndigbo in Lagos All Progressives Congress, Sir Jude Idimogu, says the approval by the party’s Governance Advisory Council on Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s second term bid remains the best decision.
Idimogu, the lawmaker representing Oshodi-Isolo Constituency II in the Lagos State House of Assembly, spoke on Tuesday.
He applauded the GAC, the apex decision making body of the APC in the state, for the approval.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Sanwo-Olu’s second term fate, which had been uncertain, was on Monday approved and sealed by the GAC at a meeting held at the State House, Marina.
By this approval, the coast is now clear for Sanwo-Olu to purchase the Expression of Interest and Nomination forms to re-contest for governorship position on the platform of the APC in the 2023 gubernatorial poll in Lagos state.
Reacting, Idimogu, a two-term member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, told NAN that the party’s leadership had acted in good wisdom to have allowed Sanwo-Olu run for second term in office.
According to him, the ruling party does not need a green horn who will be trying to find his balance at a time its leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is aspiring to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.
He said: “This is a good one.
“The party leaders have done marvellously well.
“Continuity is the key, especially now that we are dreaming that our National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, will succeed President Buhari.
“We need this now so that we can have massive support from experienced people from the executive and legislative arms for Tinubu’s ambition.
“God bless the GAC.
“They are men of wisdom.
“We cannot bring in a new person, who will be trying to find balance, now to lead the state.
“We need somebody who is on the ground already.
“We don’t need a green horn now no matter the experience.
“This is a best decision.”
The Igbo leader, who described Sanwo-Olu as “Mr. Sellable”, said that his achievements in the state also qualified him deserve a second term.
He urged that all hands should be on deck for the actualisation of Tinubu’s presidential ambition.
Recall that immediate past Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s second term bid in 2019 was truncated by the party structure and GAC members over unresolved differences with interest groups within the party despite his achievements in office.
