The National Executive Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party has confirmed a former Governor of Bauchi State, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu, as the new national chairman of the party.
Muazu is replacing Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, who resigned last week.
The motion for the adoption of Muazu, who is also the chairman of the Nigeria Pension Commission, as the new national chairman of the PDP was sponsored by the Bauchi State Governor, Mallam Isa Yuguda.
It was seconded by the Senate Leader, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba.
There was no opposition to the motion.
Before the NEC meeting, Muazu and Yuguda had paid a visit to the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum and Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Barrister Godswill Akpabio.
The visit was at the Akwa Ibom state Governor’s Lodge in Abuja.
The governors of the party largely pushed for the emergence of Muazu as the national chairman at a crucial meeting held in the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Sunday night.
The meeting, which commenced at about 9pm, ended at about 1:30am.
