The Kwara State Governor, Dr. Abdulfatah Ahmed, has called on authorities of tertiary education institutions to evolve pragmatic monitoring and supervision mechanising that will mould their students into worthy characters and nation builders.
Ahmed made the call at the Maiden Convocation Ceremony and the 20th Anniversary of the Kwara State College of Education (Technical) Lafiagi, in Edu Local Government Area of the state.
The governor also called for the overhaul of the curricula of tertiary education system in the country to refocus on functional education, produce job creators and entrepreneurs.
Ahmed explained that such paradigm shift was necessary in order to produce skilled and economically active people that will drive the economy and enhance national development.
According to him: “Japan, for example, rose from the ashes of nuclear war to the peak of industrialisation not through extraction of resources but by mobilising its people for rapid development through appropriate education.”
Ahmed added that governments at all levels must match commitment to educational development with the required additional funding to achieve desired results in the education system.
He charged the graduating students of the college to make the virtues of discipline, decorum, hard work, honesty and tolerance imbibed in the course of their study their watchword in life.
The Provost of the College, Isiak Boni Alhassan, said the institution has trained qualitative manpower serving the nation’s technical education sector.
