Flying Eagles on Saturday defeated Unterhaching 3-0 in a final World Cup warm-up game in Grassau, Germany.
Samm Audu, the team’s Media Officer, disclosed this in a statement in Abuja after the match.
Audu said the Nigeria U-20 dominated the match and created more chances against the German third division side.
He said it was in the second half that the Eagles stamped their superiority, following the introduction of Olanrewaju Kayode, who injected pace and urgency into the attack.
According to him, the Flying Eagles opened scoring in the 55th minute when Kayode made up for a glaring miss a moment earlier to set up Umar Aminu from the left flank.
Audu said the Eagles doubled the lead three minutes later, adding that Nigeria increased the tally seven minutes from time when substitute Daddy Moses fired home inside the box.
He said the first half was scoreless as Unterhaching, who are a week into their pre-season training ahead of the new season, held out and could have registered their first goal but for the alertness of Goalkeeper Samuel Okani.
He said Aminu fired a shot directly at the Unterhaching Goalkeeper after 17 minutes, while Skipper Abduljaleel Ajagun ought to have scored when he found himself inside the opponents’ goal area, but passed the ball to no one.
However, he said, a minute later, Alhaji Gero was denied a goal after a point-blank save by the opponent’s goalkeeper.
