Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has set up administrative panel of inquiry into the poor performance of Rangers International FC in the just concluded 2016/2017 Nigeria Professional Football League.
Ugwuanyi, who inaugurated the 10-member committee on Friday in Enugu, charged them to identify all factors responsible for the crisis in the club and recommend measures to curb them.
The governor also tasked the committee to determine appropriate roadmap and amendments to Rangers Corporation Law with a view to enthroning a robust administration structure.
He said: “I had, at a meeting with stakeholders of the club, announced the dissolution of the board and management of Rangers Management Corporation among other measures.
“This is to ensure total revitalisation of the club for better challenges, especially in the face of internal strife that almost resulted to the club’s relegation last season.”
Ugwuanyi said that it had become necessary to carry out a diagnostic investigation of the prevailing circumstance in the team.
Responding, the Chairman of the panel, Prof. Gab Agu, said they were delighted for the opportunity given to them to serve.
Gab said that Rangers FC was more than a football club to the people of the area.
He said: “We have followed the history of Rangers Corporation and Rangers FC which is more than a football club to us.
“The emotions of the people are usually high in support of the club.”
He assured that members of the panel would deliver on the mandate given them within the prescribed 21 days.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the Flying Antelopes which were champions of the 2015/2016 NPFL season placed 13th on the just concluded premier football season.
NAN further reports that members of the panel were drawn from the Nigeria Bar Association, Nigeria Medical Association, Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, the academia and a board member of the Nigeria Football Federation.
