Fred Edoreh, the Chairman of the Lagos Chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, has expressed his happiness with the upcoming 2017 “Lagos SWAN Cup”.
Edoreh spoke against the backdrop of the unveiling of the fixtures of the annual football tournament which would kick-off on August 11 at the Sports City, Lagos.
He told the News Agency of Nigeria on Wednesday in Lagos that he felt honoured and satisfied at the steps he had taken to bring the sports writers’ family together during his tenure.
The SWAN helmsman added that the competition had added value to the association’s profile.
He said: “I am happy to have been a part of the competition since 1996 and sincerely it has done well to harmonise the various sports desks of media organisations in Lagos.
“Over the years it has been geared toward promoting active engagement in sports by sports journalists, and stimulating friendship, professional camaraderie through sports and fun among the sports writing professionals.
“Sports writers who are seen as role models by their followers publicly and actively should be engaged in sports for healthy living to inspire others.
“And over the years we have also invited friends from Nollywood and other professionals to engage us in friendly football matches.’’
NAN reports that no fewer than 21 media organisations will participate in the 2017 edition of the tournament.
Sports Vision, an independent production outfit, is the defending champion of the competition.
