Cooperation between arms of government responsible for Lagos’ development — Speaker

The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudasiru Obasa, on Thursday said the visible development in the state was engendered through mutual understanding between the three arms of government.

Obasa made the assertion at a novelty football match between members of the House of Assembly and the Lagos State Judiciary as part of activities to mark the 2016/2017 legal year.

The match, played at the Onikan Stadium, Lagos Island, had the executives of both arms of government in attendance.

The novelty match ended 1-1 at the regular time, but the members of the judiciary won 4-2 on penalties.

Oluwatosin Omogbehin was the hero of the match as he saved two penalties by the House of Assembly players, while Obasa was voted the Most Valuable Player.

Obasa said that the objective of the match was to foster more bonding between the two arms of government.

Obasa said: “It is good that we come together like this to interact among ourselves and sometimes, our functions are restricted to our different chambers, but from what we have today, everybody is out to relate.

“I want to also emphasise that the development visible in Lagos, was a product of good cooperation between the three arms of government in the state.

“This boding has therefore given us a lot of mileage in terms of infrastructure development and good governance which is a good thing in Lagos State.”

On her part, the Chief Judge of Lagos State, Olufunmilayo Atilade, said the judiciary arm would continue to encourage good causes in the state.

Atilade said: “We will continue to encourage things that will help the state to grow. We will ensure that we play our roles in the development of the state.”

The LSHA was led by Speaker Obasa, while other principal officers in attendance are the Deputy Speaker, Wasiu Eshinlokun; Majority Leader, Sanni Agunbiade; and member, Funmilayo Tejuosho.

The Assembly football team was captained by the Speaker, while Tunde Buraimoh coached them.

The LSJ’s team, led by Atilade had High Court Judges, including Justices Opeyemi Oke, Candido Johnson and Oke Lawal.

The LSJ team was coached by Justice Oshodi and had Justices Yetunde Idowu, Yemi Alogba among others.
