The Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, on Saturday charged Nigerians participating in the 2016 Muslim pilgrimage to Mecca to comply with the laws of Saudi Arabia to avoid trouble.
Abubakar, who is the leader of this year’s Hajj (Amirul Hajj), spoke against the backdrop of the arrest of some Nigerians with illegal drugs and some items not allowed in Saudi Arabia.
He told intending pilgrims from Niger not to carry kolanuts and other items they were not allowed to take into the holy land, reminding them that violators of standing rules and regulations related to the Hajj exercise would face the music. He advised the intending pilgrims to imbibe righteousness, good conduct and strengthen their faith while on pilgrimage. “Pilgrimage is all about worshiping God. As such, when you are there, pray for yourself, members of your families, the state and Nigeria and have the knowledge of why you are there,” he said. Abubakar urged the intending pilgrims to pray fervently to God to assist President Muhammadu Buhari as well as both elected and appointed leaders to succeed in nation building.
“Fervent prayers for them will assist them to overcome the present economic meltdown and security challenges in some parts of the country.
“The President needs prayers from all and sundry, and prayer is the only weapon that will ensure he remains on the right to path to move the country forward,” he said.
