The National Council of Muslim Youth Organization has urged Muslims not to return to their sins after observing the Ramadan.
The group, in a statement on Tuesday, said the lessons of Ramadan should feature consistently in the lives of Muslims even after the fasting period.
NACOMYO also urged all Nigerians to live above board, adding: “The scripture is emphatic that we cannot be living with sins and expect prosperity. We should therefore forsake our iniquities.”
The statement reads in full:
The National Council of Muslim Youth Organization (NACOMYO) felicitate with Muslims all over the world on the successful completion of this year’s Ramadan fast.
We commend the leadership of the Muslim community in Nigeria for the uniform commencement and sallah celebration. We appeal to Muslim to be modest in their celebrations.
We wish to enjoin Muslims to continue to reflect in the lessons of Ramadan like piety, sacrifice, kindness, liberality to kith and kin and spiritual rejuvenation. We admonish them not to go back to evil ways and remain steadfast with their Creator, Allah.
We call on those who are against modest dressing for Muslim girls via the use of hijabs on School uniforms to let the Muslims be peaceful, coexistence and tolerant for other peoples’ practices and beliefs the harbinger of positive developments. However verdict of the Osun High Court should be respected while aggrieved parties had the option of appeal and not taking laws into their hands.
We implore citizens of the country to look beyond the leadership of the nation for succor out of the present economic quagmire. The scripture is emphatic that we cannot be living with sins and expect prosperity. We should therefore forsake our iniquities.
Nevertheless, we call on governments of various levels to ensure payment of salary arrears to workers and come up with policies that will put smiles on the citizens.
