40-year-old arraigned for allegedly defiling 11-year-old step-daughter

A 40-year-old security guard, Idris Ahmed, who allegedly defiled his 11-year-old step-daughter, was on Monday charged before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.
The accused, who resides at Km 4, LASU Road, Lagos, is facing a charge of defilement.
The prosecutor, Clifford Ogu told the court that the accused committed the offence on March 16 at his apartment.
According to Ogu, the accused thrust his finger into her step-daughter’s private part to defile her.
He said: “It was the girl’s cry that alerted some neighbours, who rescued her and arrested the accused.”
The offence contravened Section 135 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the section stipulates seven years imprisonment for offenders.
The accused, however, denied the charge.
The Chief Magistrate, Taiwo Akanni, in her ruling, granted the accused bail in the sum of N250, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
She said the sureties should show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government as part of the bail condition.
The case was adjourned until April 24 for mention.
