The Secretary to the Rivers State Government (SSG), Dr. Tammy Wenike Danagogo, has joined the 2023 governorship race of the state on the platform of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He obtained the expression of intent and nomination forms for the forthcoming governorship primaries of the PDP.
Danagogo confirmed the development Tuesday in a terse message to The Nation in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.
When asked whether he had obtained the forms, he said: “Yes. I have collected forms for the governorship race”.
It was also gathered Governor, Nyesom Wike, in adherence to the Electoral Act directed his appointees interested in elective positions to resign their appointment.
Sources within the Government House said the governor gave the directive during a recent Executive Council meeting.
Danagogo, who hails from the riverine Abonnema, Akuku Toru Local Government Area of the State is said to be a major factor in Governor Nyesom Wike’s succession plan.
The lawyer and former executive Chairman of Akuku Toru Local Government Area has been a loyal associate to Wike through whom he became a Minister of Sports and Chairman of the National Sports Commission under the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan.
Danagogo, who served two times as a commissioner in Rivers, was appointed the SSG by Wike in 2019.
