The measure followed a letter from Governor Nyesom Wike to the House requesting the ban on services of middlemen or contractors in matters pertaining to government revenue collection.

Governor Nyesom Wike, in a statewide broadcast, said the decision to impose the on the entire State was taken after an exhaustive deliberation by the State Security Council at the Government House, Port Harcourt on Thursday.

Wike spoke on Wednesday shortly after the state government signed contracts for the Trans-Kalabari Road project phase one, and the Saakpenwa-Bori-Kono Road project phase two at the Government House, Port Harcourt.

The governor in a terse statement by his Special Assistant, Media, Kelvin Ebiri, directed the sacked commissioner to submit government’s documents and property in his possession to the Permanent Secretary in the ministry.

Wike also said ahead of the resumption of international flights at the Port Harcourt Airport, the government would dissolve the tribunal set up to prosecute violators of COVID-19 protocol if federal authorities tried to influence the outcome of cases.

But Wike, in a statement signed by his Special Assistant on Media, Kelvin Ebiri, told the Emir that he was not in support of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF)’s endorsement of Federal Government’s fresh withdrawal of funds from the Excess Crude Account (ECA) to fight insecurity.

Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria in Port Harcourt on Thursday, Chris Green, Special Adviser to Governor Nyesom Wike on Real Madrid Football Academy, said the talents were discovered while screening candidates for admission into the academy.

Wike who visited the scene of the market inferno barely 24 hours after the disaster, expressed shock and dismay over the incident.
