Speaking on Sunday in Abuja at a public lecture entitled: “Taxing Powers in a Federal System” to mark the 60th birthday of Ahmed Raji, (SAN) Wike said that the state was only trying to pursue what was right and legitimate within the ambits of the constitution.

Wike made the call in a statement signed by Kelvin Ebiri, his Special Assistant on Media, in Port Harcourt on Friday.
Wike made the remark at the commission of the barracks of the Special Protection Unit of the Nigeria Police in the state.
The Governor also said the nation’s judiciary had succumbed to intimidation because its judges abandoned their responsibilities out of fear and wondered what the future held for ordinary people.
Both are currently, subjects of raging legal tussles between some states and the Federal Government.
The Governor spoke at a stakeholders’ meeting in Port Harcourt, the state capital, while addressing business owners.
Secondus had been having a running battle with Governor Nyesom Wike who ensured that he was elected as the chairman of the PDP.
Wike’s sudden appearance at the meeting must have unsettled the meeting as Governors are not members of the BoT and do not attend the party’s BoT meetings.
The measure followed a letter from Governor Nyesom Wike to the House requesting the ban on services of middlemen or contractors in matters pertaining to government revenue collection.
On June 5, Wike committed the amount during the unveiling of construction of two hostel blocks and a 1,500-seat auditorium in the law school.
