The National Union of Adamawa State Students has distanced itself from the recent endorsement of a governorship candidate in the state by some students claiming to be officials of the union.
In a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, Nuhu Gidado, on Friday in Yola, the union said its objective was enhancement of welfare of students and not endorsement of politicians.
It said: “The leadership of NUADSS under the stewardship of Luqman Bugema and the entire peace loving Adamawa Students received with shock a statement by some elements led by Bilal Abdullahi endorsing the governorship candidate of SDP, Chief Emmanuel Bello, which they said was the decision of the union.
“We want to categorically state that the union has only one leadership under Luqman Rufau and it is the only one saddled with the responsibility to speak on behalf of Adamawa State students.
“Bilal Abdullahi was not and is not the president of NUADSS, and so, any deal done with him in the name of the union is fraudulent and at the risk of the person or group of people involved.
“We call on the peace loving students and the general public to ignore any persons who will be using NUADSS to achieve their personal agenda.”
