The South South and South East Governors’ Forum on Sunday again failed to endorse President Goodluck Jonathan for the 2015 presidential election.
The governors, who met in Enugu, Enugu State, said it was Nigerians that will decide who will rule the country from 2015.
The meeting, held inside the Enugu State Government House, was attended by Governors of Peter Obi (Anambra), Martin Elechi (Ebonyi), Sullivan Chime (Enugu), Emmanuel Uduaghan (Delta), Godswill Akpabio (Akwa Ibom), Theodore Orji (Abia), and Liyel Imoke (Cross River).
The Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, John Jonah, stood in for his boss, Seriake Dickson.
And for the second time, Governors Rochas Okorocha (Imo), Adams Oshiomhole (Edo) and Rotimi Ameachi (Rivers) were absent at the meeting.
Imoke, who read the communique of the meeting, said: “We note that the determination of who will be president of this country in 2015 will be made by the Nigerian electorate in line with democratic tenets, and the power of the people should not be usurped by any group or individuals.
“We call for continued dialogue at resolving national issues and the management of the security situation in the country to guarantee the continued corporate existence of our great nation.”
The governors also sought for the resolution of the face off between the government and university lecturers.
