Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State on Wednesday in Lagos charged the Akwa Ibom Community in Lagos to vote for the governorship candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party, Udom Emmanuel and Jimmy Agbaje of Akwa Ibom and Lagos States respectively.
Akpabio also called well meaning Nigerians to continue to support President Goodluck Jonathan by casting their votes for him.
He said any vote for Jonathan will be for peace, unity and continued development of the state.
Akpabio, who is also the Chairman Peoples Democratic Party Governors Forum, gave the charge in Lagos at a reception and formal presentation of the governorship candidate in the state to Akwa Ibom State people resident in Lagos and environ.
According to Akpabio: “Let me call on all of you here that Udom Emmanuel became the popular choice as my successor because of his unbridled track record in the corporate world.
“What we need in our state today is a governor who will continue and as we’ll consolidate on the gains of the last eight years.
“We need a governor who would drive the economy of the state, particularly in the face of dwindling revenue from the oil sector.
“So Udom Emmanuel perfectly fits into that person, hence we decided to support him in the interest of the state.”
Akpabio also charged them to cast their votes for the PDP candidate in Lagos State because “it is only a PDP government that can guarantee equality for our people resident here.
“Let me publicly present to you today, the person you must cast your vote for and that person is, Mr. Jimi Agbaje.”
On why they should vote for Jonathan, Akpabio said: “The President means well for this country and the only way to support him is to cast your votes for him to continue with the good works, which he started four years ago.
“This is the only President that has developed the country without any religious, political or ethnic bias and despite all these security challenges he has refused to toe the line of ethnic jingoists and those who promised to make the state ungovernable for him.”
