Sixteen men who specialise in abusing underaged girls have been paraded by the Police in Niger State.
The suspects, according the police, on various occasions had sexual intercourse with the minors, aged 12 and 13, in Kontagora Local Government Area of the state.
Parading the suspects at the Command Headquarters, Niger State Police Public Relations Officer, Muhammad Abubakar, told newsmen that the 16 suspects were arrested for unlawful sexual intercourse with three minors at separate occasions following a tip off.
Abubakar said one of the suspects lured a 13-year-old girl who hawks egg with N200 into a bakery room in Kontagora, where he sexually abused her.
Further investigation led to the arrest of the 15 others of Chadan Daji area of Kontagora, who had abused the two other minors.
The eldest of the suspects, Bello Sardauna, 49, said he had sexual intercourse with one of the girls eight months ago when she visited him, requesting for N200.
According to Bello, a father of five boys and a girl: “I was arrested eight months after I had forgotten about her.
“She is 13 years old.
“I didn’t rape her.
“She requested for sex in exchange for N200.”
While regretting his action, Bello said: “It is the devil’s work.
“What I did is wrong.
“I know my family and friends will be highly disappointed in me.
“I feel so ashamed.”
Other members of the rape train include Usman Abdullahi, 30; Usman Magaji, 29; Auwal Ibrahim, 35; Danladi Auwal, 30; Usman Abdullahi, 27; Tukur Abubakar, 25; Zaiyanu Buhari, 22; Ibrahim Taila, 37; Buhari Abubakar, 35; Samaila Yusuf, 25; Bello Umar, 35; Hassan Umar, 30; Yusuf Abdullahi, 25; and Abubakar Aliyu, 45.
The Police Spokesman told newsmen that the victims have been handed to the Niger State Child Rights Agency for counseling.
Abubakar added that the suspects have confessed to committing the offence and will be charged to court upon completion of investigation.
