The Borno State Chapter of the Association of Resident Doctors on Wednesday provided medical outreach to 20 orphans who were displaced as a result of the Boko Haram insurgency.
The ARD President in the state, Ibrahim Kuburi, stated this during a visit to the Fatima Ali Sherrif Motherless Babies Home in Maiduguri.
Kuburi said that the gesture was part of its free scientific week outreach to vulnerable victims of Boko Haram insurgency.
Kuburi said: “As you can see we have about 70 of specialists which include physicians, surgeons, optomologists, pathologists, paediatricians and radiologists.
“We have conducted our clinical examinations and treatment was offered while some referral was made to some of the babies.
“We discovered that some of the children were suffering from diseases like pertusis growth with a very contagious respiratory track infection and Mumps viral disease.
“We are also saddened to discover that all the children were not immunised which pose a great danger to their health. We have also noticed disability among two of the children.
“We are referring them for proper evaluation and treatment as well as enrollment on immunisation programme.
“We also brought some assorted food commodities to cushion their hardship.”
Also speaking, Hajiya Yada Abbayusuf, the Orphan Specialist, said most of the children were unaccompanied victims of insurgency while some of them were brought by patriotic citizens as missing children.
