Yoruba Appraisal Forum, a socio-cultural group, in conjunction with a cross section of civil society organisations and other Yoruba socio-cultural associations, have sounded a note of warning to the people and governors of the South West region not to be deceived that the newly formed security outfit, Amotekun, will serve the interest of the Yoruba nation.
In an 11 point communique issued Wednesday and signed by the Convener, Adeshina Animashaun, the forum accused the governors of the region for throwing their weight and resources behind the security outfit without scrutinising the real motive of the sponsors of the security outfit.
The forum also affirmed that the real motive of the Amotekun is shrouded in secrecy by the promoters of the outfit, noting that as a serious minded organisation, it cannot fold its arms while the South West and indeed the whole nation is thrown into chaos.
According to the forum, the recently inaugurated security outfit is designed to perpetrate crime and make political gains for a few individuals masquerading as having the love of the people of the Yoruba at heart.
To back up its position, the group will be embarking on a protest on Thursday (today) in Lagos State.
It said the protest “is a first step in alerting the entire Yoruba race and the nation to the dangers ahead if AMOTEKUN is allowed to birth in the region”.
It said similar protests are scheduled to hold in all major towns and cities across the South West geopolitical zone in the days ahead.
