Super Eagles’ skipper, Joseph Yobo, had his Norwich’s relegation fears intensified as they were beaten 4-2 by Southampton at St. Mary’s.
The Nigerian defender swallowed the bitter pill on Saturday after enjoying an impressive outing since joining the Premier League side on loan mid season.
Yobo, who returned from injury to the starting line up, was a shadow of himself as the homers taught them some football lessons.
The Saints took the lead through Morgan Schneiderlin, who beat the offside trap to calmly slot past John Ruddy.
Norwich gradually got into the game towards the end of the half, with Gary Hooper firing wide after a one-two with Robert Snodgrass.
The Saints doubled their lead in the 56th minute as substitute Rickie Lambert latched onto a loose ball before cutting inside Yobo and slotting it past Ruddy.
Chris Hughton made a triple change but it was Southampton who scored next, as Jay Rodriguez smashed the ball home after being teed up by Lambert.
It seemed all over but two late goals in two minutes from Norwich made it a nervous end to the match for the home fans.
Johan Elmander capitalised on Jose Fonte’s poor backpass to slot the ball through Boruc’s legs before Snodgrass picked up a loose ball and fired it home.
An unlikely comeback seemed on the cards but youngster Sam Gallagher sealed the victory for the home side with a cool finish in injury time.
