Yobe employed 10,000 graduates in 2013 – Gaidam

The Yobe State Government said it engaged no fewer than 10,000 university graduates and diploma holders under its Special Poverty Alleviation programme in 2013.
Governor Ibrahim Gaidam made the disclosure at the launch of 200 tricycles purchased by Hon. Goni Bukar, representing Bursari/Giedam/Yunusari Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
Gaidam said that over 3,600 university graduates and 6,572 diploma holders were engaged by the government under the programme.
He described Bukar as a “worthy ambassador” of his people and development partner of the government.
In his remarks, Bukar, who said he donated the tricycles to promote self reliance, urged the beneficiaries not to sell them.
“The journey to your prosperity may start with these machines,” he said.
Alhaji Abubakar Balewa, the National Coordinator, National Poverty Eradication Programme, described Bukar’s intervention as the “largest” single individual intervention toward poverty alleviation.
Represented by Alhaji Wakil Adamu, Director Monitoring and Evaluation, Balewa said records available at NAPEP showed that the intervention of the legislator was the largest individual intervention in the country.
He appealed to other public officers to emulate the lawmaker to reduce unemployment in the country.
