At last the D-Day is here for Nigeria’s Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economic Team, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, to face an interview panel in her bid to become the president of the World Bank.
Okonjo-Iweala is scheduled to meet with the panel today.
Her interview was fixed for today according to a statement on the website of the bank on April 3.
The interview is to take place at the headquarters of the bank in Washington DC, United States of America, which in terms of timing is five hours behind Nigeria.
The two other candidates challenging Okonjo-Iweala, José Antonio Ocampo and Jim Yong Kim, will be interviewed on April 10 and 11.
Ocampo is from Colombia while Kim is the nominee of the United States of America as announced by President Barack Obama.
Ocampo, however, does not have the support of his home government, which prefers another position in the International Labour Organisation.
In terms of experience and exposure to the workings of the World Bank, Okonjo-Iweala stands shoulder high above the others.
She has been a Managing Director of the Bank and put in over 20 years working there.
She has also been getting rare reviews in the international media since her nomination was announced in South Africa, with the backing of Nigeria, Angola and South Africa.
