Work is to commence next week on the new Ebonyi State International Airport.
Governor David Umahi made the disclosure on Monday at the Government House, Abakaliki when he received in audience the people of Ezza Clan who paid him a solidarity visit.
The Ezza people were led in the visit by the Chairman, Ebonyi State Traditional Rulers Council and the Paramount ruler of Ezzama Kingdom in Ezza South Local Government Area, Eze Charles Mkpuma.
Recall that some elders allegedly of Ezza extraction had recently protested against the siting of the airport project on the proposed land belonging to the Ezza people.
Addressing the visitors, Governor Umahi assured them that there was no going back on the project.
He emphasized that work on the airport would commence by next week simultaneously with enumeration of properties and persons likely to be displaced.
Umahi assured that he would pay adequate compensation to those who may be displaced on account of the airport, adding that his administration would not relent in its commitment to dualize the Abakaliki-Afikpo and Abakaliki-Enugu expressways to further open up the State to investors.
Stating their mission earlier, Mkpuma scorned those who allegedly protested against the siting of the project, noting that they were not real Ezza indigenes.
While appreciating the Governor for all his developmental strides in the State and his favourable dispositions towards the Ezza nation, he pledged their total support to the Airport project.
The delegation comprised of all political office holders from the clan, traditional rulers, technocrats, professionals and indigenes in diaspora.
