Wike appeals to NASU over unpaid salary

The Minister of Education, Chief Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has appealed to the members of the Non-Academic Staff of Universities not to embark on the proposed strike action, saying that their two months salaries have been paid.
Chief Wike, who stated this on Friday while speaking with journalists in his office, said that the delay was not intentional but due to some mix-up, which have been sorted out.
He said: “Yes, we received a letter from the Non Academic Staff threatening strike action on Monday, September 30.
“I appeal, and say clearly that the delay of their salaries was not intentional.
“It was a mix-up, but as I’m talking to you now the salaries have been paid and there is no need for such strike action.”
The Minister also appealed to parents to bear with government, saying that concrete measures were being taken to end the Academic Staff Union of Universities strike action.
This is even as he reiterated government’s commitment to the provision to access to quality education to all citizenry.
He said: “I want to thank them (parents) and appeal to them to continue to support government.
“We mean well.
“Government is not happy with the situation.
“We are talking with ASUU and waiting for their response.”
