A widow has petitioned the Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba, over threat to her life, allegedly made by her in-laws.
She also wants the IGP to give her police protection to enable her bury her husband without hassles from her in-laws.
The widow, Stephanie Chioma Okeke, client to Festus Keyamo’s Chambers, alleged that her in-laws threatened to eliminate her if she did not stay away from her late husband’s property.
According to the lawyers from Keyamo’s Chambers, Okeke is the statutory wife of late Chief Chukwudi Emmanuel Okeke, who died in suspicious circumstances on October 8, 2014 after attending his niece’s wedding ceremony at Awka, Anambra State.
The lawyers claimed: “The deceased was hale and hearty when he left his family in Lagos to attend the wedding. He had health complications soon after the wedding ceremony. Unfortunately, he never survived it.”
The lawyers further explained that the deceased, during his battle for life, was abandoned by some of the relatives he most expected to have his back, to die in the hospital while they were busy devising plans and hatching schemes on how to steal and convert his estate for themselves.
“Our client was eventually locked up by these people at State Criminal Investigations Department, Enugu, under very inhuman and brutal conditions. These culprits have been threatening to eliminate our client if she fails to steer clear of her late husband’s properties,” alleged Mrs. Okeke’s lawyers. “Some of them were even bold enough to tell her that what happened to her late husband may happen to her. The meaning of this is that they may eliminate her at anytime in order to fully inherit all that she has with her late husband, who is yet to be buried.”
The lawyers said that information reaching Mrs. Okeke was that these individuals were planning to secretly bury her husband and had equally mapped out plans to arrest her and if possible eliminate her, to actualize their grand design.
The lawyers added: “It is very clear and obvious to our client that plans to eliminate and stop her from attending her husband’s burial are so real and that these people are capable of actualizing their evil plans.”
They therefore urged Abba to investigate the cause of the death of Mr. Okeke and provide Mrs. Okeke with full police protection to bury her husband.
