The cult members who attacked, robbed and almost chopped off the arm of Folakemi Akinbode, a serving member of the National Youth Service Corps in Bayelsa State, have finally opened up.
Akinbode, serving at Obunaghan, near Okolobiri in Yenagoa Local Government Area, was attacked by unknown youths in the night as she was returning to the Corpers’ Lodge.
In an attempt to take away her handbag, the youths inflicted machete cuts on her hand, almost chopping it off.
She was later rushed to the hospital, where she is serving, by other corps members who heard her cries for help.
Akinbode was attacked on Monday and had been unconscious since.
On Wednesday, police and the community leaders teamed up to search for the attackers and arrested them based on information.
The alleged cult members, Ebi Jatto and Weriye Aluwa, were arrested while attempting to sell the phone they saw in Akinbode’s handbag.
They confessed to have attacked her with a machete because she stubbornly refused to relinquish her handbag or give them a certain amount of money.
According to the suspects, they knew that Akinbode was in charge of huge sums of money for the hospital, where she is serving.
Whenever people come to donate blood, she was the person that used to pay the donors.
On the particular day she was attacked, the two suspects went to the hospital to donate blood and were paid by her.
Later, they laid in wait and followed her at night.
