Why Tinubu, Akande visited Buhari – Rahman

The Media Office of the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has explained the reason for the visit of the former Lagos State Governor alongside a chieftain of the party, Chief Bisi Akande, to President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The visit had been linked to statement released by former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Buhari on Tuesday, telling him not to seek reelection in 2019.
But explaining the rationale for the visit, the Head of the Media Office of Asiwaju Tinubu, Alhaji Tunde Rahman, said it was the normal routine consultation with leaders of the APC by Buhari.
Rahman said: “Today’s visit by Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and Chief Bisi Akande to the Presidential Villa was scheduled last week.
“President Buhari periodically schedules talks with Asiwaju Tinubu and Baba Akande, as he does with other Nigerians and APC figures, to discuss substantive issues pertaining to the governance of the country and matters concerning the party.
“This visit was one such meeting. As such, the meeting had nothing to do with the statement of former President Obasanjo.
“It is totally unconnected. At the time of the meeting, Asiwaju Tinubu and Baba Akande were even unaware that President Obasanjo had released his statement.”
