For voting overwhelmingly for President Muhammadu Buhari in Saturday presidential polls, the Ekiti State Government has called on the Federal Government to ensure it pays special attention to the state in the distribution of infrastructure and other social amenities.
The Deputy Governor of the state, Chief Bisi Egbeyemi, made the demand on Thursday while speaking with newsmen in his office in Ado-Ekiti.
He described Buhari’s triumph at the poll as remarkable, historic and unprecedented, adding that the election was free, fair, transparent and credible.
He said the voting pattern at the presidential contest showed that Buhari and his main challenger, Atiku Abubakar, garnered votes in all parts of the country.
This, he said, would not have been possible if the election was manipulated as alleged by the opposition.
The deputy governor said the people of Ekiti voted overwhelmingly for the re-election of the president because of their belief that he remained the right man for the job.
Egbeyemi urged Buhari to consider the performance of the Ekiti All Progressives Congress in the polls and assist the state to develop for the benefit of its people who voted for his re-election.
The deputy governor called on the president to ensure that the connection of Ekiti by rail and the airport project in the state capital become a reality.
He added that Buhari’s latest electoral victory would provide the opportunity for him to continue his economic recovery agenda and the fight against corruption.
He said: “He should consider our (Ekiti) performance; we really performed in Ekiti State because we delivered all the three senatorial seats and all the six House of Representatives seats.
“Besides this, we ensured that Buhari had a landslide victory in Ekiti State and this gives us the right to make demands from the Federal Government to make the lives of our people better.
“Ekiti is yet to have what other states are having, we thank God the railway project is coming and we also need an airport and industries in our state.
“There was no state in the Southwest that performed better than Ekiti at the last election in ensuring that we won all the available seats; so whatever that belongs to us in Ekiti should be given to us.
“When Ekiti State was created in 1996, the Federal Government had not given us our take-off grant till today and there are other things that the Federal Government should give us.
“Presently, Ekiti lacks big industries and other infrastructure, but by God’s grace during these four years, we will fight to get them for our state to move forward and for our children to get jobs.”
