Isah Suleiman, President, Nigeria Amputee Football Federation, says that the national team known as Special Eagles will participate in the Cup of Nations for Amputee Football in Angola.
Suleiman told the News Agency of Nigeria on Sunday in Lagos that preparations for the team’s outing in the Federation for Africa Amputee Football organised tournament was in progress.
NAN reports that CANAF is a biennial football tournament for all amputee football playing nations in Africa to determine the best team in the continent.
He said: “Our participation in the CANAF tournament is necessary because it’s a major event in the continent which holds once in two years, so it is a pritority in our programme of activities for this year.
“The boys and the coaching crew are doing the needful as part of buildup to keep the team on their toes, while we are making effort to ensure that everything works out.”
He said that it was part of his agenda to ensure that Nigeria’s representation through Special Eagles in continental and intercontinental football fiesta were actualised.
According to him, the participation of the national team at the 2018 World Cup restored its membership with the World Amputee Football Federation.
He said that the feat was expected to be replicated in FAAF.
Suleiman said: “The federation has stepped up its activities in the international scene since we came on board last year, and it is like a dream and a fulfillment of part of our agenda.
“We made the first outing at the 2018 World Cup and CANAF is another event that we are working towards, at least to make up for the dry years.”
NAN reports that NAFF national team is affiliated to FAAF, the parent body of Amputee football in Africa and organisers of the competition.
