The United Kingdom National Crime Agency said it commenced investigation into the allegations that led to the arrest of Nigeria’s former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Deziani Alison-Madueke, in 2013.
The UK NCA arrested Alison-Madueke and four others on Friday.
They were all charged before a Magistrate Court also on Friday.
The Court granted them bail but impounded their international passports.
The UK NCA on Saturday on its website said the investigation by its International Corruption Unit began in 2013.
It said it was part of “an investigation into suspected bribery and money laundering offences”.
It added: “The investigation commenced in 2013 under the Proceeds of Corruption Unit, and transferred to the NCA earlier this year.”
