Real Madrid winger Cristiano Ronaldo has been named as Uefa’s Best Men’s player, beating Barcelona’s Lionel Messi and Gianluigi Buffon to win the award.
Ronaldo scored 12 goals and provided five assists in the Champions League last season as Real became the first club in the modern era to retain the trophy.
The Portugal star was also named as the forward of the season, with the awards being given out at the Champions League draw in Monaco.
Buffon was named as the Champions League goalkeeper of the season after keeping eight clean sheets as Juventus reached the Champions League final.
He fended off competition from Bayern Munich’s Manuel Neuer and Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak to claim the award.
Sergio Ramos, who captained Real Madrid to Champions League glory last season, was named the defender of the season.
Meanwhile, another Real Madrid star, Luka Modric, received the award for the midfielder of the season.
Francesco Totti, having brought the curtain down on his spell with Roma at the end of last season, received the UEFA President’s Award having spent the entirety of his career with the Serie A side, producing some outstanding performances in the process.
Netherlands international and new Barcelona signing Lieke Martens was named UEFA Women’s player of the year.
