Two years after schools renovation by senator, LG boss yet to allocate teachers to it

Two years after renovating three schools to very good standards, the representative of Niger East Senatorial District, David Umaru, has raised the alarm that the Chairman of Shiroro Local Government Area has refused to send teachers there to work.

The senator had also awarded scholarships to 53 students and paid for their Junior Secondary School Certificate Examinations.

Umaru said the government has refused to post teachers to the schools for about two years now after he provided the basic amenities.

Umaru, who lamented the rate at which education has declined in the state, told newsmen on Tuesday at his campaign office that he has made frantic efforts to get volunteers to teach in the schools.

According to him: “I have renovated three schools, bought books, sewn uniforms, bought chairs and tables and even bought motorcycles for teachers that will be sent to these schools to aid their movements, but the Chairman of Shiroro Local Government Area has refused to get teachers.

“I am ready to give children in my constituency the best of education but the Chairman of Shiroro LGA, who has been approached more than three times to provide volunteer teachers, because it is his responsibility, up till this moment has not sent any teacher.”

While announcing the undisclosed payment of scholarships and JSSCE fee of the 53 students from Niger East Senatorial District comprising of nine LGAs, who are benefactors of the unity schools, Umaru said he has renovated and furnished three schools in Allawa, Lampa and Basakokoki in Shiroro LGA.

When asked why he wept, Umaru said: “I only shed tears of joy because the children have made me proud.

“I really wish I can do more.

“It is truly an emotional state for me.

“The appreciation from parents and even the students has only spurred me to do more.

“I only wanted to know how they are faring and to pay their examination fees, including fulfilling the scholarships.”

Earlier, some of the parents and beneficiaries commended the senator for his gestures and called on other politicians to emulate his programmes
