The Police in Akwa Ibom State have arrested two students of the Heritage Polytechnic, Eket for allegedly robbing an ExxonMobil contractor in Eket Local Government Area of the state.
The Public Relations Officer of the Police Command in the state, DSP Ikechukwu Ogechukwu, confirmed the arrest to the News Agency of Nigeria in Eket on Friday.
Ogechukwu said policemen arrested the suspects at the Imperial Hotel, SDP Road, Eket while robbing the contractor.
He said: “Investigation is ongoing to determine the root course of the matter. We will take them to court after the investigation.”
The owner of the hotel, Bassey Essien, a former Speaker of the State House of Assembly, said the suspects had been handed over to the police.
Essien said three suspects were actually involved in the August 13 incident, but that one of them escaped.
He added: “We have handed over the remaining two suspects, including a girl, to the Eket Police Divisional Headquarters.”
