A 44-year-old man, Emeka Ukpai, has appeared before an Ojo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, for allegedly stealing plasma television set and assorted drinks from a Lagos hotel valued at N325,000.
Ukpai, a trader, is charged on one count of stealing.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor, Asp. Simeon Uche, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Sept. 11, at the New Planet hotel, located on Aka Road, in Ajangbadi, Ojo, Lagos.
He said the defendant who pretended to be a customer of the hotel, had lurked around until about 11 p.m. when he entered into the storehouse of the hotel to cart away the items.
Uche said the defendant allegedly stole a 32 inches LG plasma television set valued at N145,000 and assorted drinks valued at N180,000, all belonging to the hotel.
He said the defendant was subsequently apprehended with the items stolen.
The offences contravened the provisions of section 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
Magistrate Ademola Adesanya granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
He adjourned the case until Jan. 21, 2022 for mention.
