Three unarmed civilians were killed on Thursday as unidentified gunmen went on a killing spree in the Orji area of Imo State.
Sources say the assailants, dressed in back with a touch of red, rode in two vehicles – a blue Toyota Hilux van and a white bus.
They shot indiscriminately at residents along the popular Spibath Road/Roundabout in Owerri, the Imo State capital.
One of the victims, a Dangote truck driver, was shot dead because he allegedly refused to surrender his movable truck to the gunmen to use as a barricade for their operation.
It was gathered that a policewoman was also killed in the attack and another lady who attempted capturing the incident with her phone.
Security operatives were immediately dispatched to the area to curtail the attack.
The police operatives engaged the gunmen in a gun duel which lasted for about 40 minutes, during which four of the assailants sustained severe injuries while others escaped with gunshot wounds.
