The Crime Reporters Association of Nigeria (CRAN) has urged the security agencies to make conscious effort in being proactive in combating terrorism than in reactive.
This was even as it condemned the Monday bomb blast in Abuja by terrorist group where hundreds of innocent Nigerians were killed and the Tuesday’s abduction of over 100 female students in Bornu state.
While the association’s President, Christopher Oji commiserates with the families of the dead, the injured ones and that of the kidnapped victims, he charged security operatives to live up to their duties of protecting Nigeria citizens from both internal and external aggression.
Oji condemned the killings, adding: “Now the group has graduated from shedding of innocent blood to kidnapping of females. These crimes are most horrendous and not acceptable.
“As stakeholder in security, we are saddened with regular news of bomb blasts and other killings in different parts of Nigeria and this present abduction of over 100 females.”
He commended the efforts of the Federal Government and security agencies in combating the insurgent, urging that efforts should be more proactive than reactive in order to win the war against terrorism.
“To be candid, it’s very shameful and annoying that 100 children were abducted and the abductors succeeded in taking them away without confrontation from our security agencies,” said Oji.”We recommend that security should be beefed up in schools and worship places in the North. Security should be tightened in our boarders and security agents should move fast and rescue the abducted females.”
