Tension is still very high in Nasarawa and Anambra States over the killing of 17 persons by gunmen on Friday.
In Duduguru, Obi Local Government Area, Nasarawa State, where 14 persons were killed in a clash between Fulani and Koro farmers, the possibility of a reprisal has forced the state government to deploy more troops despite the plea by the state Governor, Alhaji Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, for calm.
Al-Makura, who visited the affected areas on Friday, vowed to bring the perpetrators to book.
Al-Makura said his government would not condone lawlessness.
The governnor said those affected by the crisis would be taken care of by his government.
But this has not eased tension in Duduguru.
The situation is also the same in Ukpor, Nnewi South Local Government Area where gunmen stormed the police station in the town, killing three riot policemen and setting the station ablaze.
There are fears in the area that the gunmen may strike again or that the police could vent their anger on the populace, leading some residents fleeing the area, sources said.
The hoodlums reportedly struck in the wee hours of Friday, killing three of the riot policemen who had just been posted to the area to beef up security.
In Kano, owing to the order to beef up security during the Easter period, soldiers of the Joint Task Force have been parading the streets of the metropolis since Thursday evening.
They are also joined by officers and men of the State Security Service and uniformed and plain clothes policemen.
Some of the security agents are said to be stationed and visiting mosques to ensure that no harm comes to worshippers while some have been detailed to provide security on Sunday during the Easter service.
Sources said some soldiers and plain clothes detectives have already taken positions in some churches ahead of tomorrow’s service.
Owing to this, it was learnt that a lot of residents of the metropolis have kept indoors.
