There is heavy deployment of police personnel in the Saki area of Oyo State following the tension that built up over the hacking to death of a farmer in Oke Orogun village by yet unknown assailants.
The deceased farmer, simply identified as Kola, was said to have been tied to a tree and hacked to death with machete by his assailants on Saturday night.
The Eagle Online gathered that by the time the farmer was discovered, it was already too late to save him.
Irate youths in the area who suspected the attackers to be herdsmen, mobilised, stormed the herders’ settlement in the area and set the huts ablaze.
But the spokesman of the Oyo State Police Command, CSP Olugbenga Fadeyi, said the incident was a case of robbery.
Fadeyi told The Eagle Online on Tuesday: “It was a robbery case.
“Some of the youths in that area vented their anger.
“The Area Commander had to come up with a stakeholders’ meeting to call all their leaders and the youths to a meeting, where they brokered peace, and they all agreed to terms to stop whatsoever might be their grievances.
“As at present, we still have police deployment in the area and normalcy has returned.”
Fadeyi also said the police were working hard to prevent further breakdown of law and order.
