Ugwuanyi made the announcement when he addressed a delegation from the Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU), comprising members of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), Nigeria Union of Allied Health Professionals (NUAHP) and Medical and Health Workers Sector Union of Nigeria (MHWUN), at the Government House, Enugu.

Osita Nwanisobi, Acting Director, Corporate Communications Department, CBN, made the call at a one-day interactive and enlightenment session with Organised Labour and Civil Society in the South on Saturday in Lagos.

The workers who spoke, through the State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Virginus Nwobodo and his Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) counterpart, Comrade Benneth Asogwa, during the occasion of this year’s May Day celebration, held at the Michael Okpara Square, Enugu, appreciated Gov. Ugwuanyi, who was present at the annual event, for his unequalled resilience in the approval and payment of the new N30,000 minimum wage and its consequential adjustment to the state workers.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress began the strike Tuesday midnight, after the ultimatum given to the state government lapsed.

This was the second time in eight years that Nigeria would focus on the deregulation of the downstream sector. The same arguments, at different times, under different administrations, and with different reactions and outcomes.
