This summon followed the unanimous adoption of a motion under matter of privilege moved by Sadiq Ibrahim and seconded by Aliyu Madaki
Under the proposed law, sponsored by Linus Okorie (PDP, Ebonyi), suspected looters of the public treasury would enjoy full and complete amnesty; not face any probe, inquiry or prosecution; and “shall not be compelled to disclose the source of their looted funds” as long as they invest their ill-gotten wealth in Nigeria
The commendations were contained in letters by Saraki and Dogara
The President confirmed this development on his Twitter handle on Sunday
The Speaker said this in a statement by his Media Office
This followed the pandemonium that arose from a protest by workers
Dogara, while expressing sadness over the sudden demise of the late senator, said he will be remembered for his legacies, especially his dedication to the betterment of the common man
Dogara said this in a statement on Monday
This was revealed on Tuesday by both the President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara.
This is coming on a day Ali had written the Senate to say he would not honor the invitation extended to him to appear at plenary in uniform
Speaking shortly after the letter was handed over to him by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (House of Reps), Hon. Suleiman Abdurhaman Kawu Sumaila, Dogara said he will read the letter to his colleagues in plenary on Tuesday since the communication was meant for them
Speaker Dogara had in August 2015 set up the statutes reform committee comprising of erudite scholars and renowned legal luminaries in the country
In a congratulatory message, Dogara noted that former President Shagari has served Nigeria selflessly and always put the country first
Saraki had last week led a delegation made up of the Senate Leader, Senator Ahmad Lawan, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara, to a meeting with Buhari at the Abuja House in London
Dogara’s efforts and leadership have started yielding positive fruits for the country as record numbers of bills are being passed on daily basis. In just one and half years, more than 150 bills have been passed by the House just as work is being done on about 800 more
While Saraki is said to have arrived in London already, Dogara has just left the country
Both Saraki and Dogara relayed the messages from the call they had with Buhari on Wednesday night on their Twitter handles
Dogara also charged local government workers to step up agitation for local government autonomy, saying only through their individual and collective efforts will the desired change be achieved
Dogara, who spoke in an interview with reporters in Abuja, noted that lack of elections at the local government level is crippling democracy and denying the much needed development at the third tier of government
