The Mogajis said Governor Ajimobi had since Monday’s invasion of the Olubadan’s palace by unknown gunmen, who shot sporadically and wounded three journalists in the process, been telling the whole world that “Olubadan’s cup was full but for the respect he had for him as a father”
The Commissioner said the Governor of the state, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, responded to the call of prominent Ibadan elders, Chiefs, Baales and leaders of thoughts who have consistently called for the review of the Ibadan Chieftaincy Law over the years
Ajimobi, who spoke on Wednesday, said no matter the level of provocation and opposition to the recent installation of new obas in Ibadanland by Oba Adetunji, he would not depose him.
Specifically, the police boss, who allayed the fears of people of the city over the latest unrest, vowed “to pursue, arrest and prosecute the said gunmen”
In a statement by his Special Adviser on Communications and Strategy, Yomi Layinka, the governor directed security agencies to ensure that the masterminds are swiftly arrested, interrogated and brought to justice
The gunmen were said to have come in a white Sienna Toyota space bus with open roof
The group in a statement at the weekend by its Coordinator, Dr. Adesola Okanlawon, said verbal aggression and words deployed by the Olubadan’s media aide in the wake of the Oyo State Government’s 1959 Olubadan Chieftaincy Declaration review and subsequent elevation of some traditional rulers and Chiefs have been very inflammatory and inciting.
The party in a statement by its Director of Media, Research and Strategy, Dr. AbdulAzeez Olatunde, said it discovered that contrary to the position that Obi Adetunji had not been paid in the last six months, his salary and allowances, like those of other chiefs, was up to date
This came as the Ibadan monarch also allayed the fears of his subjects that Ajimobi was planning to “punish” him for his hard-line posture on the recent elevation of some high chiefs and Baales (village heads) to beaded crown wearing status.
Oba Adetunji’s position followed a peaceful protest by the Mogajis under the aegis of Authentic Ibadan Mogajis, who had earlier issued a seven-day ultimatum to Ajimobi to withdraw some statements considered offensive to the stool of the monarch
The Mogajis are contending that the reforms will bring the chieftaincy system in Ibadanland into disrepute
The road show by the Olubadan on Monday follows the installation of 21 other obas for Ibadanland by the Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi
Ajimobi, in a statement signed by his Special Adviser, Communication and Strategy, Yomi Layinka, also congratulated the entire people of Ibadanland on the momentous occasion
Ajimobi had on Friday presented letters of conferment of Obaship titles to 30 out of the 32 obas recommended by the retired Justice Akintunde Boade-led Judicial Panel of Enquiry on the review of 1957 Olubadan Chieftaincy Declaration
The government explained that its decision was in line with the provisions of the recently amended 1959 Declaration of Olubadan and other related chieftaincies in Ibadanland as well as the government White Paper as conveyed in Government Gazette No 14, Notice 27 Vol. 42 of August 23, 2017 and Gazette No. 15 Notice 28 Vol. 42 of August 24, 2017
The position of the traditional ruler was made known on Tuesday by his Director, Media and Public Affairs, Adeola Oloko
Adetunji gave the commendation on Tuesday when the General Officer Commanding, 2 Division, Ibadan, Maj-Gen Martins Abraham, paid him a visit at his Popoyemoja, Ibadan palace.
Oba Adetunji said this during the presentation of N1 million cheque to Ahmed Eniola Tolani, a civil servant, who emerged the fourth lucky winner in the bank’s ongoing “Reach for the Skye” millionaire reward promo, which held at the palace of the monarch at the weekend.
The Olubadan made the accusation at his palace in Ibadan while receiving the new Deputy Inspector General of Police, South West, Foluso Adebanjo
