Although she is out of the competition, the Warri born singer can look forward to a studio session with D’banj, as the Kokomaster said.
The captivating rendition which made the evening show very exciting saw the contestants, Zadok, Banty, and Progress, performing two songs each, one from any time of release and the other on the year they were born, another twist that increased the excitement generated from the evening gig, but a moment of Jordan’s eviction, with low votes from the over 29 million recorded.
Sunday’s live show opened with the contestants delivering a colourful performance of D’banj’s 2013 hit song, Oliver twist. They were joined by season 6 winner, Kingdom Kroseide, and second runner-up, Akunna Okechukwu. It was a special weekend of music contests characterized by Bigi moments – excitement, spectacle, cheers and rousing performances staged by the contestants, who were tasked to perform a song, each that depicts the most inspiring sound track of their lives and music journey.
The Edo State-born Idol contestant who had long desired a platform like the Nigerian Idol to showcase his musical prowess, stated that the show had been his long-nurtured ambition, having performed wonderfully with the song “Wish Me” by Timi Dakolo.
Zadok opened the show with his performance of Wizkid’s Back To The Matter. It was a prelude to the glorious performances to come. His performance was followed by Debby’s cover of Brenda Fassie’s legendary song, Vulindlela. She gave an outstanding performance and complimented it with her shimmering gold dress. Simi mentioned that she reminded her of Yemi Alade.
Debby, Precious, and Joel – all put their best foot forward. The 12 of them gave us vocals, awe-inspiring performances and Vogue-worthy looks.
The contestants gave it a whirl in their separate performances in an attempt to woo viewers and fans for votes as the two contestants with the least votes would be eliminated in the next round. Abigail opened the floor of the evening with an astonishing rendition of ‘Rain on Me’ by Lady Gaga. The highlight of her performance was the uniqueness of her voice that synergized with her backup singers.
The live shows will begin on Sunday, March 20, 2022, and all 12 finalists will be competing to become the next Nigerian Idol and walk away with N100 million worth of prizes. The promise of winning the largest ever prize for a music talent show in Nigeria means that all 12 finalists will bring their A-game, and the show will get hotter.
As the judges stated at the show’s beginning, it was a tight list that only the best of the best could make. Unfortunately, a contestant like Collins had to go home because his last performance wasn’t ‘good’ enough to earn him a spot on the top ten list.
