The 21-year-old singer won after polling more fans’ votes to beat fellow finalist Zadok in a record-breaking voting season. The top-2 secured 45 million votes in the finale week alone and over 220 million votes all season long. IK Osakioduwa revealed this in a celebratory finale episode on Sunday.

The captivating rendition which made the evening show very exciting saw the contestants, Zadok, Banty, and Progress, performing two songs each, one from any time of release and the other on the year they were born, another twist that increased the excitement generated from the evening gig, but a moment of Jordan’s eviction, with low votes from the over 29 million recorded.

Sunday’s live show opened with the contestants delivering a colourful performance of D’banj’s 2013 hit song, Oliver twist. They were joined by season 6 winner, Kingdom Kroseide, and second runner-up, Akunna Okechukwu. The stars from last season’s show in a quick chat with IK on stage talked about the impact of the show on their careers and announced that they would be releasing new singles soon.

Zadok opened the show with his performance of Wizkid’s Back To The Matter. It was a prelude to the glorious performances to come. His performance was followed by Debby’s cover of Brenda Fassie’s legendary song, Vulindlela. She gave an outstanding performance and complimented it with her shimmering gold dress. Simi mentioned that she reminded her of Yemi Alade.
