Since the UBEC amendment passed at the Senate, the Upper Chamber has received commendations from various domestic and international advocacy groups and individuals, including Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani activist for female education and the youngest-ever Nobel Prize laureate, who commended the 8th Senate and thanked Saraki for working to extend the right to free education in Nigeria

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the 20-year-old Malala, who was accompanied by her father, Yousafzai, and other members of the Malala Foundation, arrived at the Presidential Villa at about 5.30pm.

Responding to a letter written to him by Malala Yousafzai, the Co-Founder of the Malala Fund, President Buhari said while he cannot divulge the details of ongoing negotiations to secure the release of the girls due to the sensitive nature of the negotiations, ”rest assured, however, of the doggedness, commitment and sincerity of the Nigeria’s Federal Government towards ensuring the safe return of the Chibok girls, and indeed all others still in captivity”
